A retired Justice of the Appeal Court, Justice Mamman Nasir has called on President Goodluck Jonathan as leader of the country to stop joining issues with opposition governors and their parties.
The former Appeal Court Justice said it was a national embarrassment, for the President to engage his subordinates in whatever guise regretting that the president had called Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso a “thief” during his party’s rally in Kano.
Justice Nasir who is also a delegate at the ongoing national conference appealed to delegates to send an advisory delegation from the conference to visit the President.
“I want the delegates to appeal to the president, we know that the president is the leader of the country and knows more than us but he should not join issues with his subordinates” he said.
Another delegate Chief Sergenat Awuse from the South-South commended the observation of the elder statesman and stated that other politicians in the country should also be advised to respect the office of the president and desist from insulting the person of President Jonathan.
According to Awuse,“There is also the need to advise those talking to stop talking; the president deserves respect if the governors want to be respected by their people, they should respect the office of the president. We will advise the President to keep quiet and also advise others in government to stop talking and concentrate on the business of governance,” he said.
He stated that the president is also a human being and could react when pushed to the wall.
A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon Musa Elayo said Justice Mamman Nasir’s motion was in order and should be supported by the delegates.
Although Justice Nasir’s remarks were supposed to come as a motion, Kutigi noted that it lacked the prerequisite of a motion as it needed to be served to the delegates before being moved in the conference.
