JUSUN seeks garnishee of Niger, Kogi accounts over judiciary autonomy

The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has approached a Federal High Court, Abuja, for the garnishee of the accounts of Kogi and Niger states over their refusal to obey the judgment on financial autonomy for the judiciary.
In a suit No.
FHC/ABJ/ CS/667/13 tagged JUSUN vs.
NJC and 78 others, the union approached the court for the interpretation of sections 121(3), 162(9), 81(3) which deal with the financial autonomy of judiciary as an arm of government.
After about a year and six months of legal battle, a Federal High Court, Abuja awarded a judgment in favour of the union on 13th January, 2014.
Lamenting over the situation, President of JUSUN, Comrade Marwan Mustapha Adamu said the action of the union in seeking for the garnishee of the accounts was due to their inability to implement the court judgment, despite that no appeal was filed by the respective states since the judgment in 2014, including several memoranda of understanding (mou) entered into with the union.
Comrade Marwan, who is also the President of Confederation of Africa Judiciary Workers Union (AJWU ) said the union want the court to garnishee the accounts of the two (2) states since they have refused to honour an undertaking to comply with court judgment.
However, Comrade Marwan said the union would continue to seek for the garnishee of more defaulted states, as similar action was taken against Plateau and Benue states recently, upon which Benue had commenced partial compliance to the judgment.
