Juventus set to offload Ronaldo

Juventus are reportedly ready to cut ties with Cristiano Ronaldo and put the Portugal star up for sale next summer.

It is believed the 35-year-old earns a staggering £28mimllion-a-year in Turin, a salary which is five times more than his highest-paid team-mate Paulo Dybala.

And according to Sport, Juve chiefs are willing to listen to offers for the former Real Madrid forward, whose current deal in Italy runs until 2022.

Juventus have been badly hit by the COVID-19 pandemic and it is understood boss Andrea Pirlo is keen to free up space on their wage bill in order to improve his squad.

Juventus were held to a 1-1 draw at Lazio on Sunday, with Ronaldo netting his sixth goal of the campaign before Felipe Caicedo bagged an injury-time equaliser in a huge blow to the Italian champions.

And in another blow to Pirlo, Ronaldo went off with an ankle knock in the closing stages of the match and it is not yet known whether he will join up with Portugal during the international break.

Last week, Pirlo slammed his forwards for being ‘selfish’ following their 4-1 victory over Ferencvaros in the Champions League.

“I talk to my players a lot, but they make the choices when they are on the pitch. They could’ve been less egotistical and killed off the game earlier,” he said to Sky Sports Italia.

“We are playing with two forwards plus two wide men. Once we get everyone in shape, we can evaluate who to use together. So far, not everyone has been at 100 percent, so it’s been normal to rotate them and leave one out.”

Juventus are currently fifth in the Serie A standings, four points off early leaders AC Milan.
