Sabo told journalists on Friday in Kaduna that the police regretted the infraction and shooting and would everything possible to avoid a future occurrence, hence the investigation and disciplinary action against the alleged killer cop.

“The Kaduna State Police Command wishes to note with all sense of sadness the unfortunate incident that happened along Kaduna –Abuja Road where a commuter was allegedly shot dead by a Policeman on duty in the early morning of today.

“The Commissioner of Police, Ali A. Janga has already defaulted the Inspector involved in the incident as a preliminary disciplinary measure and he will be tried accordingly. He further directed for a full investigation into the circumstances of the killing.

“The CP commiserated with family of the deceased and assured them and members of public that the Command will ensure that justice is done on the matter.

“The Command therefore calls for calm and pleads with the drivers unions not to take law into their hands by causing road blockade as such measure will only add difficulty to the public,” DSP Yakubu said.

Following resolution of the fracas with motor transport unions, the road blockage was on Friday afternoon cleared to enable motorists that have been stranded for several hours pass the blocked area and continue their journey.

Blueprint investigations revealed that due to the huge traffic along the Kaduna-Abuja highway, particularly on the eve of the Eid-el-Kabir Sallah festival, it would take hours for the road to be completely eased of the gridlock that has formed from the early hours of Friday.

However, traffic has started flowing again.
