Kaduna

The crisis rocking the ruling Kaduna All Progressives Congress (APC) deepened at the weekend, as the party’s state executive council suspended Sen. Suleiman Hunkuyi for six months and expelled 28 other members for alleged anti party activities.
Hunkuyi, representing Kaduna North senatorial zone, is one of the leaders of the factional Restoration Group, which opened a new secretariat at 11, Sambo Road last week where it issued a query to Governor Nasir el-Rufai, while suspending the governor’s political adviser, Malam Uba Sani, the state Commissioner for Finance and another aide.
Addressing the media, APC acting state Secretary, Malam Yahaya Baba Pate said, “We took this decision after a thorough deliberation of the members of Kaduna state House of Assembly.
“Some of the federal legislators and other stakeholders met on the action of the said persons, and having been convinced and found guilty of a section in the party’s constitution, we have no other option than to adhere to the constitution.”
Prior to the State Executive Council (SEC) meeting, barely 24 hours after the opening of the Kaduna APC Restoration Group factional office, led by Hunkuyi, some thugs allegedly from the el-Rufai camp had allegedly defaced the faction’s secretariat.
Our reporter, who visited the secretariat observed that the entrance to the building, including the sign board of the party, was tarred with red paint to disfigure the party’s name and logo.
Blueprint recalled that the state APC SEC had previously suspended a serving senator, Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna Central senatorial district, for anti party activities.
