Kaduna: Bandits kill 2 in failed kidnap, troops avert farmer-herder clash

 

Two people were shot to death by bandits in Chikaji, Igabi Local Government Area (LGA) as they tried to run away to avoid being kidnapped by bandits, just as troops averted farmers – herder clash in Jema’a LGA both of  Kaduna state.
A statement signed by Kaduna state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan, on Thursday said four people have been arrested in Jema’a in respect of the averted clash, while security are patrolling Chikaji to avert another bandits’ attack. 


“The Kaduna state government received reports of a double homicide following an attempted kidnap at Chikaji village, Igabi local government area. Armed bandits invaded the residence of one Alhaji Yunusa Gambo, a farmer in the village, and attempted to kidnap him, along with one Malam Surajo. The duo attempted to flee but were shot by the armed bandits. 


“Governor Nasir el-Rufai has commiserated with the families of the deceased, and prayed for the repose of their souls. Security agencies are investigating the incident and sustaining patrols in the area. 


“In another development, troops under the auspices of Operation Safe Haven have averted what would have been a bloody clash between some herders and farmers in Jema’a local government area. 

“The incident took place at Ungwan Marwa and Marmara communities in the local government area when cattle under the care of one Bayerajo Sule destroyed farms belonging to three farmers listed as: Abigail Michael, Emmanuel Bulus, and Jonathan Vincent. 


“The following individuals from both herders’ and farmers’ sides, instead of appealing for calm, are alleged to have incited the respective parties for a clash: Alhaji Abdullahi Idi, Gamji Alhaji, Apollos Auta and Matthew Moses. They have been arrested for further interrogation. 


“The governor thanked the troops for their prompt action in averting the violence, and appealed to citizens to maintain recourse to the law.”


Meanwhile, Kaduna state government has stated that kidnapping of Kano traders did not take place on the Kaduna-Abuja road
According to Aruwan, “the Kaduna state government wishes to issue clarification on a report emerging across several blogs and websites, alleging that an unspecified number of traders from Kano state were kidnapped on the Kaduna-Abuja road. 
“The Federal security agencies operating on the Kaduna-Abuja Road, as at this time, have not reported any such incident.

Furthermore, from all checks conducted so far by the Kaduna state government, the alleged kidnapping occurred elsewhere in another state.
