Kaduna: College mosque gifts rice, cash to 84 beneficiaries

Government College Central Mosque, Kaduna, Sunday, donated rice and cash gifts worth N577,000 to 84 less privileged beneficiaries to support feeding in their various homes.

The beneficiaries, who were drawn from the communities surrounding the Mosque such as Kurmin Mashi, Sabon Layi, Abakpa and Badikko, included the sick, elderly men and women, widows, the poor and less privileged, according to the Chief Imam of the Government College Central Mosque, Kaduna, Imam Aminu Yusuf Abdullahi.

Speaking on the welfare programme, he said the gifts were funded from the money raised through donations by the congregations between Magrib and Isha prayers every Fridays and Saturdays.

The Imam added that they also accept Zakats that are also donated to the less privileged and the vulnerable. He said this is the fifth of such donations, while they have handed out Zakât gifts on three occasions.

“This is a programme by the Government College Central Mosque organised through its sub committees to give assistance to the needy and less privileged in the society. This is the fifth time we are assisting the needy and assistance is five measures of rice and the sum of N3, 000 for 84 less privileged living in and around the Mosque area. We have various sub committees for different aspects such as orphans, education, Zakât and less privileged etc.

“We receive Zakât from people that want to give out Zakât either in cash or in other Zakât offerings and we give out to the needy.”
