The village head of Danhonu ll in Chikun local government area of Kaduna state has disowned its residents association over their petition to ICPC over an abandoned electrification project in the community.
The residents under the auspices of Danhonu ll Residents’ Association had on July 9th written the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission calling for investigation into the reasons behind the abandonment of the project, which started in 2017 and its current status.
However, the Village Head, Mr. Jethro Ahmadu, in a rejoinder to the said petition, clarified that, the petitioners were not representatives of the community leadership, but a group of overzealous residents who know little or nothing about the electricity project.
The rejoinder signed by the Secretary to the Village Head, Mr. Yohana Ishaku said the petitioners never consulted with the Village Head or his chiefs before writing such petition.
According to him, “our attention has been drawn to a petition written by a group of people who called themselves residents of Danhonu ll community to ICPC, over our electricity project.
“To set the record straight, the petitioners are not representatives of Danhonu ll community leadership. They are a group of overzealous residents who know little or nothing about the electricity project.
“Only the Village Head and his assigned chiefs have the mandate to speak for Danhonu ll community, not a few residents, who probably don’t know about how the project was attracted to the community and its present status.
“The petition has caused us embarrassment as the contractor was summoned by ICPC for interrogation to the dismay of Senator Shehu Sani, who genuinely as part of his efforts to empower our community, brought the electricity project to us.
“As the petitioners may not be aware, the Village Head is constantly in contact with Senator Shehu Sani and the contractor handling the project. And we are fully aware of the reasons the project is yet to be completed,” Malam Jethro Ahmadu said.
