Kaduna dep gov tasks appeals committee on farmers’ complain resolution

Deputy Governor of Kaduna state, Hajiya Hadiza Balarabe, has urged the Agro-Processing. Productivity Enhancement And Livelihood Improvements Support Project (APPEALS)’ Grievance Redress Committee to adequately address issues and complains raised by farmers and stakeholders.

The Grievance Redress Committee is key strategy of addressing issues, concerns, problems (perceived or actual) that an individual or a community may raise. As project-level problem solving mechanism, the committee will facilitate resolution of grievances raised by people directly affected by environmental and social impacts under the APPEALS project.

Speaking on Friday while inaugurating the Appeals Grievances Redress Committee for Kaduna state, the Deputy Governor, who is also the Chairperson State Steering Committee, said that by resolving the issues and challenges brought forward by the farmers and other stakeholders, the committee will be enhancing the project in line with the World Bank tenets.

“The Grievance Redress Committee will provide people with opportunity to seek redress on challenges or issues facing them. We are incorporating the 9mobile toll free hotline for people to call and lay their complains.”

The GRC, which has 15 members, is headed by a former chief justice of Kaduna state, Justice Tanimu Zailani. Other members include Appeals State Project Coordinator, Dr Yahaya Aminu, Dr Habiba Tukur, Mr Luka John, Barrister Mani Shuaibu, Sukur Henry Jonathan, Mrs Maria.

Others are, Mr Ibrahim Yakubu, Alhaji Rufai Muhammed, Khadija, Aminu Lawal, Ashafa, Barrister Priscilla About, Farida Abubakar and Aisha Idris.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, Malam Yahaya Aminu said that “the committee would listen to complains, issues and challenges and play mediating roles to ensure that the complains are addressed. The committee will be scaled down to farmers at the local government level”.

Appeals, is a World Bank project aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity of small and medium scale farmers and improving value addition along dairy, ginger and maize value chains in Kaduna state.
