Kaduna deputy gov gives update on gas explosion, visits Professor’s family, other victims as govt makes fresh vow

Following Saturday gas explosion that killed six persons including Chairman of Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission, Prof. Simon Malam, in Kaduna, the state government is set to enforce safety regulations to protect its citizens.

Deputy Governor of Kaduna state, Dr. Sabuwa Hadiza Balarabe, who disclosed this on Sunday after visiting the scene of the explosion and paying condolence visits on the family of the victims, said the state wouldtake stringent measures in enforcing safety regulations, while calling on residents to report to authorities any person who situate life threatening businesses such as gas outlet in residential areas to avoid future occurrence. 

The deputy governor who went in company of Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, and other government officials, also visited victims of the explosion at General Hospital, Sabon Tasha, St. Gerald Hospital Kakuri and Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital within Kaduna metropolis, though some have been treated and discharged.

Balarabe paid a condolence visit to the family of late Prof. Malam, at his Gonin Gora residence, where she prayed for the repose of the soul of the late Professor and all persons who lost their lives in the incident, while urging the family to accept the death of their father as the will of God. 

The deputy governor expressed sadness over the incident, and prayed for the quick recovery of those injured. She stressed the need for businessmen to always adhere to government regulations in siting business, saying there are designated business areas set aside by government. 

“We are sad over this unfortunate incident. We pray for the repose of those who lost their lives. We advise residents to adhere strictly to government’s policy when opening business.”

Hadiza also said Kaduna state would be tough in enforcing safety regulations to protect the lives of its citizens.

She however commended the security and safety agencies for the team  work which saved human lives and other neighbouring buildings.
