Kaduna govt spends N889.3m on projects in Jaba LGA

The Kaduna state government has spent N889.3 million for contracts awarded between 2015 and 2017 on education, health, roads, water and women empowerment in Jaba local government area.

The state Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Hafsat Baba-Ahmed stated this on Tuesday during a Kaduna State Policy Town Hall Meeting organised by the planning and Budget Commission in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Supported by Kaduna State House of Assembly.

Baba said the government spent N254.9 million on education projects  consisting of construction of a block of examination halls, eight classroom rehabilitated, six toilets and eight solar powered boreholes.

According to her, in the health sector, N286.8 million was invested in the renovation of general hospitals, 10 public health centers, construction of staff quarters, construction of toilets and solar powered boreholes, supply of medical equipment, furniture, purchase of ambulance and fencing of primary health care centers.

The commissioner also said N7 million was spent on water and sanitation, adding that VIP toilets were constructed in various location. She said that N340.5 million was spent on infrastructure including construction of township roads and a N30 million bridge.

She said that much attention had been given especially to women in the construction of rehabilitation center aimed to empower women in skills acquisition. “Jaba local government council had been captured to host one of such centers in Zone III in addition to financial support scheme of N2 million for women engaged in SMEs,” she said.

She said the present Sole Administrator of the local government has built 20 boreholes in the area in addition to renovations of primary health centers, council secretariat, primary schools, purchase of medical equipment to boost maternal care and awarded contract for drainage renovation among others. Others include empowerment scheme for youths, women and men.

Chairman of people with disabilities in the local government, Emmanuel Daniel appreciated the state for the construction of rehabilitation center.

“During his campaign in 2015, we the disabled contributed money and gave him for his campaign. We appeal to him to remember us because we have 529 disabled persons in Jaba and some of them want to go to school,” he said.

The Sole Administrator Java lga, Hajiya Hadiza Mua’zu, said the event was to articulate the promises made by the present administration and to present a scorecard of what had been achieved so far. Hadiza said that the event was significant as it would help build the confidence of the people and give them a sense of inclusion as achievement has direct bearing on them.
