Kaduna state government has been urged to intervene in the leadership crisis that had engulfed the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Kaduna state chapter, and threatening to tear it apart.
IPMAN held an election on March 22, 2014, which produced Alhaji Rabiu Mohammed Yola as its Kaduna state chairman, but a faction of the association rejected the result and called on Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero to wade into the matter.
According to the faction, the continuation of the ongoing crisis may allow the crisis degenerate into an uncontrollable level, which may have dire effects on the state’s economy and thus prolong the ongoing fuel scarcity in most parts of the state.
A member of the faction, who is also the Managing Director of Yussufa Petroleum, Alhaji Abdulfatah Murtala, told reporters that they rejected the ‘kangaroo election’ which produced Alhaji Rabiu Mohammed Yola as chairman because it was fraught with irregularities.
He said: “They nominated themselves and assigned position within themselves in a closed door meeting and tag it IPMAN election, no election forms was sold, it amazed every member that election was held at Command Guest House, Kanta Road, on March 22, 2014.
“We wish to call on the governor and the chief security officer of Kaduna state, Alhaji Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, to wade in, as a matter of urgency, to avoid further crisis that might degenerate into uncontrollable level,” Alhaji Murtala said
“We also call on all members of IPMAN, Kaduna state chapter, to disregard the confusion being perpetrated by some disgruntled members and reject in totality any attempt to cause disrepute and sow a seed of discord amongst the rank and file of IPMAN members, Kaduna state chapter, by dragging it into unprecedented crisis.”
