Kaduna: Anxiety mounts as abductors of school children, female teacher remain silent, 2 weeks after

Two weeks after kidnappers killed a vigilante and abducted seven persons, including four secondary school students and a female teacher at^ Damba-Kasaya village in Chikun local government area of Kaduna state, the abductors have yet to communicate.

The gunmen abducted a female teacher, Christiana Madugu, three female students Miracle Saitu Danjuma, Favour Danjuma, and Happy Odoji, as well as a male student, Ezra Bako, all of Prince Academy, Damba-Kasaya.
The gunmen had stormed the village around 8:00am on the 24th August, shooting sporadically, and vandalising a church before whisking away their victims including a farmer and a woman.

Eye witnesses said the attackers who came on about 20 motorcycles shot and killed the local vigilante man who was trying to repel the attack.

“The gunmen arrived around 8:00am and went into the Prince Academy where they took away the four students and their teacher who was coaching them for their upcoming junior secondary school exams. We don’t know where they took the hostages, they have not made any contact. We hope they don’t harm them,” he said.

The attackers broke into a church and vandalised musical instruments before soldiers arrived in the village, forcing them to flee.

Meanwhile, a resident of the Village, Shehu Sarki, told our Correspondent on Wednesday that the abductors have not called to ask for ransom.

“The kidnappers have not called us to request for ransom. They only called two days after the abduction to tell us that, they have our people with them. Since then, we have not heard anything from them again.

“We want you the media people to help us, to draw the attention of government to our plight. We live under palpable fear and tension, because there is no presence of security in our community. In fact, the bandits do as they like around our area as they like.

“Few days ago, they passed through our village to only God knows where, but they didn’t do anything to us, except that, when they were returning from where they went, they passed through our village again and started shooting into the air. We want government to help us and liberate us from these criminals who are preventing us from going about with our normal lives and businesses,” Sarki said.
