Kaduna lawmaker to seek redress over ‘election irregularities’

Hon. Shehu Garba, representing PDP Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives has said the party would employ every legitimate means to protect the people’s mandate at the just concluded local government election in Jema’a. Blueprint reports that the development followed earlier allegation by the PDP on plans by the ruling APC to rig election results in Jama’a local government.
Garba, in an interview with newsmen recently in Kafanchan, regretted that the election, which would have been the best ever not only the state but in the country, was being compromised. “We have fear that this apparent attempt to compromise what was otherwise a very smooth and transparent process, would seem to be consistent with what is being alleged to happen to transparent elections overturned by the government in power to have a result already predetermined.
“We believe this is dangerous, not good for our democracy and is not in consonance with what the government of the state and country has always wanted the whole world to know,” he said. Also, Mr Edward Masha, Chairman of PDP stakeholders forum in Jema’a, said already, the party had written a petition to protect the people’s mandate. Masha condemned the action demonstrated by ward returning officers who refused to turn up at their respective wards to collate and return results, adding: “Out of the 12 wards in Jema’a, only four had hitherto submitted and announced their results.
“The party at the state and local government levels had resolved that results must be announced at each pulling unit and anything short of this would be tantamount to chaos which we do not want in our local government and state at large,” he said.
