Kaduna NUJ, MMPN mourn Blueprint Columnist

The Kaduna state Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has condoled with the Baba Ahmed family, Zazzau Emirate Council, the government and people of Kaduna state over the death of Alhaji Mahmoon Baba-Ahmed.

The veteran broadcaster died on Thursday night in Kaduna, after a brief illness. He was aged 74 years and has since been buried.

The NUJ in a statement by Secretary of the Council, Alhaji Dauda Doka, described late Baba-Ahmed as a veteran journalist, who contributed very immensely to the progress of his chosen profession.

The statement read: “As a veteran journalist and seasoned administrator, members of fourth estate of the realm and other Nigerians will continue to remember Mahmoon Baba-Ahmed for his contributions on investigative journalism as well as the unity and development of our country.

Before his death, late Baba-Ahmed maintained a column in Blueprint Newspapers and Hausa vernacular newspaper, Aminiya.

Meanwhile, the Plateau state chapter of Muslim Media Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MMPN), has described Baba-Ahmed’s death as a monumental loss.

The association in statement by its Chairman, Buhari Bukar Bello, and Secretary, Comrade Shittu Tanko, said the late journalist was of high repute.

“As members of the forth estate of the realm, we have indeed loss a great scholar, an educator, a columnist and a literature of letters, a quintessential journalist, a fair, objective media guru whose life of practice had not only stood for the uphold of the ethics, but had also mentored and brought lots of us into limelight of the profession of journalism,” the group said.
