Kaduna: Police arrest 5, trail one over man locked up for 20 years 

Operatives of the Kaduna state Police Command have arrested five people suspected to have been involved in the locking up of a 65-year-old man in Kaduna, while the principal suspect is at large. 

Malam Ibrahim Ado (65) was on Wednesday rescued by men of Kaduna State Police Command who broke into a house on Bayyajida Street by Kano road within Kaduna metropolis, where he had been locked up for the last 20 years.

The Police Public Relations Officer,  Kaduna state Command, DSP Muhammed Jalige, told Blueprint at the scene that the preliminary investigation revealed that the victim has been locked in the room for the past 20 years where he urinates and defecates.

Jalige said the Kaduna state Commissioner of police, CP Yekini Ayoku, has directed a full investigation into the matter to apprehend any suspect associated with the gruesome act.

“The victim who gave his name as Ibrahim Ado is in a medical facility within Kaduna metropolis where medical personnel are trying to assess his case for proper treatment,” Jalige said. 

Jalige however told Blueprint correspondent on Thursday that five suspects have been arrested in respect of the man who was isolated for 20 years, just as he says that the police is on the trail of the principal suspect who is at large.

Meanwhile, Kaduna Police Command have rescued one kidnap victim and killed two notorious armed bandits, while recovering one AK-49 rifle loaded with 24 rounds of live ammunition and a motorcycle following an exchange of gunfire between the Police and the bandits. 

DSP Mohammed Jalige said the rescue operation took place on Wednesday at Idasso area of Kidandan in Galadimawa District of Giwa local government area of Kaduna state. 

“The Kaduna state Police Command under the watch of CP Yekini A. Ayoku, acting in line with the operational direction of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba has recorded another tactical milestone in its relentless onslaught against criminal elements in the state. 

“The Command had at about 0800hours of 12th October, 2022 received an information that some heavily armed bandits in large numbers were sighted around Idasso area of Kidandan in Galadimawa District of Giwa LGA on a mission to commit atrocity against law abiding citizens.

“Upon receipt of the information, the Command immediately mobilized a nearby crack squad to advance to the location in a bid to thwart their nefarious mission. The resilient officers on getting to the area engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle and successfully neutralized two bandits while others escaped with varying degrees of bullet wounds.

“An immediate search of the vicinity led to the recovery of an AK-49 rifle loaded with 24 rounds of live ammunition and one bandits’ operational motorcycle. A kidnapped victim one Yusuf Dahiru m 65yrs was equally rescued unhurt. Operatives are currently combing the general area with the view to apprehending the fleeing band of marauders.

“The Commissioner of Police has appreciated the sacrifice officers and men of the Command continue to make daily in order to restore public order and normalcy in our state. 

“He equally charged them to continue to work in close synergy with other security agencies and build on the trust of the general public in actualizing their mandate of securing the public space. In the meantime, members of the public in the area have been enjoined to report anyone found with bullet injuries to the nearest security formation,” Jalige said.
