Kaduna polo club unveils 2 new trophies

The 2020 edition of Kaduna International Polo Tournament will commence on Saturday December 7 at the Ahmadu Yakubu Polo Club House, Murtala Muhammed Square, Kaduna,

President of Kaduna Polo Club has said.

According to Alhaji Suleiman Abubakar (Walin Keffi), the annual tournament would have been shelved this year due to Covid-19 pandemic, if not for the insistence by traditional sponsors on sustaining the century old tradition of the Kaduna International Polo Tournament.

Addressing sports writers Saturday night, the Kaduna Trapco Club patron noted that First Bank Nigeria Plc, traditional sponsors of Africa’s most prestigious polo trophy, the Georgian Cup for over 100 years, insisted on an unbroken tournament which features their flagship trophy.

“Our usual traditional and glamorous sponsors night was not held as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic this year, but  a media briefing and introduction of two new trophies. Trobell Nigeria Ltd, Sponsors of the  Trobell Cup, Alhaji Haruna Imran and Alhaji Faruk Hanbali are here to inform us of the new trophy, which  is a high handicap trophy.

“It would be completed on the last day in front of all dignitaries. On behalf of chairman Trobell NIgeria Ltd, Alhaji Lawal Garba, we hope that this trophy will enhance the progress of the club and add to the goodwill Kaduna Polo Club already has.

“The second new trophy is the Emir of Zazzau Cup, which is sponsored by the Imani Group. His Royal Highness has accepted to be present when the cup will be competed for.

“The Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmed Bamalli is not only a friend of the club, but also a friend to several members of the club. It is also a high goal trophy to be contested on the last day alongside the Trobell and the Georgian Cups,” he said.
