Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero of Kaduna state has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Newwave Network Ltd, on the development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in state-owned secondary schools across the 23 local government areas.
Yero, who reiterated his administration’s commitment to the educational development of the state to enable the students to measure up with their counterparts elsewhere, said the ICT was to prepare the students for the computer-based examinations like University and Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The MoU, which was jointly signed on behalf of the governor by the Commissioner for Education, Malam Ibrahim Ali, and his counterpart in the Ministry of Science and Technology, David Audu Chatjok, centres on web design, training of students and teachers’ development and making available the necessary tools such as modem for internet connectivity.
The MoU, which was to last for one year and may be renewed based on joint assessment within the period covered, will see each of the schools pay the sum of N39,099 as processing fee, while each of the teachers and students would pick the registration forms at the rate of N200 only.
Yero said: “We realised that most of our students now use computers to write JAMB, among others. So, we need to start something and that is why we deem it fit that our students in secondary schools should be trained on how to use computers and achieve results.
“The state government has procured the computers used by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). We will put them in good shape and reconfigure them to suit the purpose of acquiring them and would be distributed to schools for free.”
