Kaduna tuition fees hike: PDP’s Mr. LA supports students with N30m

Lawal Adamu Usman (Mr LA), the 2019 PDP flagbeearer for the Kaduna Central Senatorial District, has offered N30 million to support students of his son to enable them to pay their school fees due to the sharp increase in tuition fees announced by Governor Nasir El-Rufai.

The fees hike had generated uproar across the state with students and parents decrying the policy. The hike is coming when most students could not afford the N26,000.00 required for registration, leading students dropping out of school while others engaged in menial jobs in order to meet up. Our biggest fear is borne out of concern towards female students who could to resort to prostitution so as to meet up payments.

Students of the Kaduna State University (KASU) who are majorly affected have expressed outrage on the increment announced by government. “Our greatest fear is that female students who cannot afford the high fees will resort to prostitution”, they said.

Announcing the offer, Adamu said he had decided on behalf of himself, through his Lawal Adamu Usman Foundation, to donate N30 million to ease the crunch that will be caused due to the increased tuition fees in tertiary institutions by the Kaduna state government.

“Eligible beneficiaries will be sorted out through a Portal that is provided by the Lawal Adamu Usman Foundation to be made available for online access from Monday, May 31, 2021. The fees will be paid directly to the schools and payment receipts will be given to beneficiaries of this endeavour for them to complete their departmental registrations, etc”, Adamu explained.

Mr. LA encouraged the general public to please help in their various capacities so that upcoming youths will have a bright and fruitful future.
