Kalthum makes final nominations for NCMG awards

The Negotiation and Conflict Management Group International (NCMG) has released the names of those who made the finalists of its five categories of  awards.

One of those who made it to the finalists in the Youth Innovation for Peace category is Ummu Kalthum Muhammad.

NCMG said Kalthum was considered because of her good works in the area of countering violent extremism.

Ms Kalthum and her team engaged Boko Haram insurgents to get an NYSC member Halima Umar released in May this year.

She is also currently working to get a pastor, another NYSC member and two teenage schoolgirls released by Boko Haram insurgents.

Ms Kalthum recently told journalists in Abuja that guns and bullet alone can’t defeat violent extremism and terrorism.

“I believe it is high time for the armed opposition group to consider dialogue and negotiation with the government. My organization and many other credible organizations can serve as intermediaries between the government and the armed opposition group.

“We are tired of this bloodletting. The insurgents should please surrender and be reintegrated into society. It’s a good thing that they have started talking with us,” said Ms Kalthum.

NCMG also said Professor Ibrahim Gambari who is the chairman of the panel, would announce the final winners at an award dinner slated for 14th November.

The award dinner is scheduled to take place at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and HRH Sanusi Lamido Sanusi are expected at the event.
