Kano anti- graft body recovers N1bn in 2017

 

Kano state Public Complaints and Anti Corruption Commission, has recovered the sum of N1billion in cash and property from corrupt officers and treated over 2,000 related cases in 2017.

Chairman of the Commission, Malam Muhuyi Magaji Rimin Gado, made the disclosure at a press conference in Kano yesterday.

He said the Commission had also recruited 120 staff and deployed some of them to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to undergo modern and sophisticated investigative training.

He disclosed that the Attorney-General of the state, who is responsible for dispensing corruption related cases after investigations, had allowed the Commission to prosecute on his behalf, adding that the development was the first time in the history of the Commission, since its creation over a decade ago.

“We are discharging our duties without fear or favour. Many directors and even a commissioner lost their positions and N23m was recovered from a single case, 44 new offices across the state were provided and over the year we are the best government funded Agency under Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje”

He, however, stated that more than 1,000 fake traders were identified at the famous Kwari market, pensioners and local government staff were screened by the Commission during the period where many ghost workers were uncovered, pointing out that the result would soon be presented to the state governor for further action.

He further revealed that the Commission had started using software in tracking corruption related cases, stressing that even the EFCC , ICPC and other related agencies referred cases to his Commission
