Kano commission trains 129 staff on anti-graft operations

Kano state Public Complaint and Anti- corruption Commission has started moves to acquaint its 129 newly employed staff on the basic rudiments of anti-graft operations.
The programme, according to the officials, is premised on acquainting the participants on the basic rudiments of anti-graft operations which entails; Ethics, integrity, inter agency cooperation, fraud and financial investigation, intelligence gathering, among others.
Executive Chairman of the Commission, Muhuyi Magaji Rimin-Gado, yesterday said the fight against corruption “will not achieve the much-expected results if left at the centre.”
Speaking at a five-day capacity building programme for 129 newly employed staff of the Commission, in collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Academy Karu, Abuja, Rimin-Gado said the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission(ICPC) and the EFCC’s commitments at the federal level “is much to extend to the states.”
He said: “The fighting of corruption in Nigeria is more at the centre. Looking at the structure of the country, it will not go down if the fight is only at the centre. The bulk of work handling by the EFCC and ICPC at the federal level will not avail them the opportunity to come down at the state level.
“What we are doing in Kano state is an eye opener for other states to follow suit in the fight against corruption, Nigeria will get the desired result.”
Earlier in his address, the Head of Civil Service, Kano state, Muhammed Awwal Na’iya, assured the programme, which is the first of its kind, “will enhance the capacity of the state civil service and entrancing transparency, accountability and prudent in the management of public resources towards sustainable social-economic development of the state, critical at this material time.”
“Since the establishment of the Public Complaints and Anti-corruption Commission, in 2015, it is the present administration which came on board in 2015, that reinvigorated the organisation, provided competent and dedicated leadership, in addition to the recent recruitment of 129 staff, as well as establishing of PCAC offices in each of the 44LGs in Kano state,” he said.
