Kano deserves kudos over pollution control – FG

The Federal Ministry of Environment has expressed satisfaction with the equipment provided at the State Environmental Pollution Control Laboratory of the Kano state Ministry of Environment.

A delegation from the Federal Ministry of Environment who paid a visit to the laboratory to assess it for accreditation gave the commendation.

According to the team leader, Malam Ibrahim Barau Danbatta, “we were at the ministry to assess the laboratory for accreditation purposes.”

He expressed satisfaction with equipment provided and the professional staff that were manning the laboratory unit, noting that “when the laboratory fully takes off, it would be the second environmental pollution control laboratory in the northern part of the country that can conduct water, air, soil and food analyses among others.”

Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso, said the Kano state government under the leadership of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje had spent millions of the naira to make the laboratory to function effectively.

Getso, who was represented by the director, pollution control in the ministry, Alhaji Abba Adamu Takai, said the provision of the laboratory “will help tremendously in the areas of environmental monitoring of pollution, enforcement of standards and regulations, training of students, educational research as well as boost the IGR drive of the state through conduct of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Environmental Audit, among others.”
