Kano designate 1,200 health care facilities for health week

Permanent Secretary Kano State Ministry of Health, Alhaji Usman Bala Muhammad has said that the state government under governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje had concluded  the necessary plan for the commencement of the second round of  2019 Maternal  Newborn and Child Health Week, slated to begin Monday, 19th and 23rd August, 2019 across all the 44 local government areas.

Speaking at a press conference in Kano over the weekend, Muhammad stated that the state government has designated 1,200 health care facilities where health care services would available free of charge for mothers and children.

According to him, the Kano State government had been consistent in the implementation of all the programmes aimed at improving the health and well-being of the people of Kano and that it had provided all the necessary support to ensure that the campaign was equally a great success.

He said the State Ministry of Health has also outlined a number of critical and innovative interventions on Vitamin A supplementation, use of Insecticide Treated Bed Nets, Elimination Mother to Child transmission of HIV/AIDS Virus as well as improving level of coverage for other interventions.

He stated that the last round of MNCH week conducted in February, 2019 recorded tremendous success with Vitamin A coverage, considering the increased support by both government and notable development partners adding that the second round of Maternal Newborn and Child Health Week was expected to offer services such as Vitamin A supplementation and De-worming of children among others.

He further explained that  the programme was also expected to  immunize children under the age of five and the distribution of long-lasting Insecticide Treated Nets, Nutritional status screening, Antenatal  services including Malaria  Prophylaxis for pregnant Women, Birth registration among others.
