Kano emirates: CSO’s seek Sultan’s intervention

Rainaissance Coalition in collaboration with Civil Societies Organizations and notable stakeholders ,have called on the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Saad Abubakar III, to as a matter of responsibility wade into the crisis precipitated by the creation of four new additional emirates in Kano.

Speaking on behalf of the Coalition in Kano Monday, Alhaji Abdulrahaman Baffa Yola said the creation of the four additional emirates in Kano by governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje was hastily effected without listening to the opinion of the general public on the issue adding that  it is only with the intervention of the caliphate that the  deadlock can be tackled.

According to him, creating new emirates out of the present emirate that had been existing for centuries was ill-conceived considering the speedy manner with which the creation and presentation of staff of office was effected affirming that neglecting public opinion on the issue was a recipe for chaos in the near future positing that allowing the entity to exist would make the business of running the traditional institutions more vibrant and formidable.

He said there were certain legal issues and processes that had to be exhausted before taking a final decision to create the four additional emirates and that acting hastily would be seen as a promotion of the culture of impunity  at the instance of governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje stressing that  the court injunction served on the Kano State government on maintaining the status quo ante is what it should be done to allow the court to take a final decision.

He pointed out that those opposed to the creation of the four new additional emirates, had the conviction that it was not what is needed by the people of Kano at present affirming that there are millions of unemployed youths  roaming the streets looking for the job to earn a living with about two million out of school children that are in dire need for succour.

He called on the Kano State government to reconsider the creation in the interest of united citizens of Kano who felt aggrieved by the action of the governor stressing however that  with the new wave of animosity created, the stage is set for fresh disharmony in the near future.
