Kano, Enugu, P/Harcourt airports to reopen for int’l flights December – Sirika

Amidst calls from different quarters to reopen the Aminu Kano, the Port Harcourt and the Enugu international airports to international flights operations, the Federal government has declared that the airports will start receiving foreign carriers before the end of year 2020.

The assurance was contained in a tweet by the aviation minister, Senator Hadi Sirika on his verified Twitter account on Tuesday in which he also disclosed that three foreign airlines have received the green light to resume operations into the country.

However, Sirika opined that resumption of flight into Enugu is still a probability as the aviation ministry is still working with the federal ministry of health, the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 and CACOVID to finalize all necessary procedures and protocols put in place to guide against the spread of the deadly Coronavirus in Nigeria.

The airlines cleared to commence operations are Lufthansa, Air France/KLM while Qatar Air is to begin its Abuja flights from Doha.

The Minister’s tweets read “we are working with the Ministry of Health, CACOVID & The PTF to open Kano, Port Harcourt & possibly Enugu airports before the end of the year.

Also Lufthansa, Air France/KLM have been given the go ahead to resume.

Qatar Airways is approved to start Abuja. Thank you for your patience. “

Director-General of Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, Capt. Musa Nuhu had earlier hinted at the decision to reopen the affected airports.
