Kano Fadama project best in Nigeria – Gawuna

Kano state Deputy Governor Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna has affirmed that Kano Fadama project remains the best in the country, considering the increase in the level of farmers’ productivity.

Gawuna made this known Wednesday when he received the task team leader of the World Bank on agro processing productivity, enhancement and livelihood support project (Appeal) who paid him a courtesy call in his office.

He maintained that this was as a result of the interventions by the administration of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in collaboration with project coordinators in Kano who provided tremendous support to small scale farmers.

“I know how we have rubbed mind and came together to make this project works in Kano.  Without fear of contradictions, Fadama project in Kano is one of the best in the Country,” he said.

According to him one area of support that has been enjoyed by the programme in Kano was the donation of eight tractors by the Kano state government to be handed over to the participants to ease their farming activities.

He added that commercial agriculture has also been considered as one of the programme that enhances farmers productivity in the State, acknowledging that “women and youth who engaged in commercial agriculture project are doing very well and up to now 85 per cent of the participants are compliant”.

The deputy governor noted that there were other value chains handles by the State in terms of this project which include the aspect of rice, wheat and tomatoes production among others.

” At the moments,  Kano has been chosen to flag off rice planting season under the Ancho Borrowers Programme and Kano has the largest number of Farmers that have registered so far ” said Gawuna.

Earlier, the World Bank task team leader on agro processing productivity,  enhancement and livelihood support project, Dr. Adetunji Oredife said he was in Kano to monitor the project so far and seek the State Government’s continuous intervention to yield higher performance.
