Flooding has ravaged parts of Kano state with many people dead while many others have been rendered homeless. This is sad and sympathetic but nothing can be done to draw the hands of the clock backwards than to accept it as an act of God.
Reportedly, more than one-third of the population are affected in the state. Properties worth millions of naira have been destroyed, documents, certificates, etc of many people were washed away by the flood; material possessions like gold necklaces, wristwatches etc were. Luxury mansions disappeared. Quite sad!
According to the biblical narrative, when the curtains of this section of the planet earth will be drawn, catastrophic occurrences will be springing out. Is this not the sign of the end time? Nonetheless, this narrative is tagged by some people as a dogma.
Christian faithful believe that this planet will be annihilated by fire but not by water as it happened during the epoch of Noah. II Peter 3:10 of the holy Bible says: “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up”. This catastrophe of flood is unexpected.
Consequent upon the pang of the flood in Kano state, the erstwhile governor of Lagos state and presidential flag-bearer of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, reportedly, donated a whopping N100m to the victims to ease their plights and lightly clean their tears.
This philanthropic gesture is quite commendable. It is a challenge to other candidates like Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP), Atiku Abubakar, the presidential flag-bearer of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), among others.
However, residents of Kano state are not the only people affected. The inhabitants of Bayelsa, Anambra, and Kogi states were also hard-hit by the flood. It will be extremely pleasant if the presidential flag-bearer of APC, PDP, LP and other wealthy personalities can extend the philanthropic gesture to other victims.
Although, the donation cannot bring back the dead, it is a demonstration of goodwill and concern for the welfare and well-being of Nigerians.
The Minister of Water Resources, Suleiman Adamu, should hastily make a plan to decide on the preventive measures of flooding within the interval of three months as ordered by the President Muhammadu Buhari.
May the Great Architect of the Universe provide for those in this dilemma.
