Kano govt, police dispel rumour of planned attack

Kano state government yesterday dispelled the rumours, especially on the social media platforms over alleged security threat in form of invasion and kidnapping of students in boarding schools in the state.
In a press statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, government said the rumours were being peddled by unpatriotic elements in order to create chaos and tension in the state.
He described the rumour as baseless, unfounded and urged residents to discard it and go about their normal businesses.
The statement further advised members of the public, especially parents, guardians and care givers to remain calm and allow their wards to remain in school until the completion of their examination.
Government assured residents of the state that adequate security measures had been put in place to ensure the protection of lives and property of the people, including schools in the State.
Meanwhile, the Police in Kano have urged parents to disregard the rumours of attack on Schools, as false and unfounded.
In a statement by the spokesman of the Command, SP Musa Magaji Majiya, said: “The attention of the Kano State Police Command has been drawn to a rumour, currently circulating in the social media that the state Government has ordered the immediate closure of all schools for fear of attack.
According to the statement, “The Command has a consultative security committee, comprising principals of all secondary schools’ and parents in the state, which sits periodically to highlight security situation in the schools and evolve advanced proactive measures of maintaining and sustaining the safety and security of lives and property, especially in and around our schools.
