Kano state government has expressed determination to ensure effective and sustainable healthcare delivery system in the state.
This was contained in a statement issued yesterday by the Commissioner for Health, Dr Kabiru Ibrahim Getso, while declaring open a five-day Operational Guidelines Development workshop organised by the ministry in collaboration with NGOs, DFID-funded MNCH2, W4H and CHR taking place in Kaduna state.
Getso said “weeks ago, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje assented to the law establishing two new agencies under the Ministry of Health, Kano state Healthcare Trust Fund (KHETFund) and Private Health Institutions Management (PHIMA) in a bid to ensure effective services delivery in the state.
He said the KHETFund was mainly to source and coordinate funds to strengthen the health system and equally cater for those that “can’t afford health care services in some specific areas, as well as assist health training institutions under the ministry to function effectively.”
Getso, however, said PHIMA, on the other hand, was “essentially to monitor and supervise the activities of private health institutions in the state to ensure strict adherence to the professional ethics thereby safeguarding the health of the people of the state.”
