Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya (Kano South) has formally declared his intention to contest for the governorship of Kano state in 2015, reaffirming his commitment towards serving the people of his constituency with renewed vigour.

In his address at the commissioning of the ICT Park, established by him, at the NUJ Press Centre in Kano yesterday, Gaya said he was fully committed to the trappings of his office as a legislator, stressing that all that democracy entails is service to humanity and the ability to live above board.
He said,”I have served the state in my capacity as the first civilian governor in the present Kano state and did my best to position the state on a high pedestal. As a young man then, at the age of 37 or 38, I had received some considerable backing of my good friends from the press. I am also hoping that this time around, you would be willing to do more”.

According to the lawmaker, no politician would ever succeed in his mission to serve humanity without the maximum cooperation of the press, saying underestimating the role of the media in a democratic setting is a recipe for a politician’s predicaments.
He said he had designed a blueprint that encompasses what it takes to give his stewardship a good name, adding that, he had lived up to his billing as a politician.

“In my constituency, education has been accorded top priority with classes built and health centers established. Poverty alleviation has also been accorded top priority with the issue of employment taken care of.  Irrigation farming has also been encouraged with about 5,000 irrigation farms provided”, he added.

Earlier, Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano state Council, Comrade Abduljalal Haruna, had commended Senator Gaya for the gesture in establishing the ICT centre and pledge to fulfill all the promises he had made as part of his agenda to transform the council into a model of excellence.  top of the situation.
