Kano is transparency pacesetter – HoS

Rabiu-KwankwasoHead of Kano state Civil Service, Dr. Umar Shehu Minjibir, has described the Kwankwaso administration as “a leading pacesetter in the transparency” drive and that it was the only state in the country that “makes it resolutions known to the public every week.”
Speaking to newsmen on the activities marking the Civil Service Day, Minjibir said civil servants in the state had every reason to be grateful to the state government on the prompt payment of salaries, adding that Kano was on the front line in paying the N18, 000 minimum wage.

He said: “Only a responsible and committed government would consider the issue of keeping the general public posted on whatever it is doing to serve humanity with diligence. If the government is not transparent in this regard the weekly executive councils meeting resolutions wouldn’t have been subjected to the scrutiny of the people of the state.”
He said the state government had also looked into the accommodation problems being faced by workers who do not own a house to live, adding that government had sold out houses occupied by civil servants who were willing to pay.
On staff promotion, Minjibir, however, said since coming on board, the Kwankwaso administration had effected the promotion of at least 32, 000 civil servants in line with the laid down civil service rules, stressing that there was no single worker compulsorily retired by the state government.
He also stated that the state government had also introduced induction courses for newly recruited civil servants and increased the salary of lecturers in tertiary institutions, doctors and other health professionals and judicial staff.
He called on civil servants in the state to be dedicated and fully alive to their responsibility, stressing that without being committed and hardworking there was no way the state government could be able to realise its desired goals.
