Kano lauds DFID on education support

Kano state government has expressed appreciation to the DFID – PERL and other development partners for the solidarity rally round the administration of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in its efforts to address the huge burden and public demand for quality education in the state.

The commendation was made by the Head of Service, Alhaji Awwal Na’iya, during a two-day retreat for validation of implementation plans and establishing monitoring partnership organised in collaboration with DFIDPERL, Office of Head of Service and the Ministry of Planning & Budget in Kaduna yesterday. Na’iya implored the participants to “come up with solid validated report for implementation and streamlined procedure for proper monitoring and implementation strategy designed to be effected by the state government through SERVICOM Directorate and other relevant stakeholders towards effective and efficient service delivery in the education sector in the state.”

On her welcome address, the Commissioner for Planning & Budget, Barr. Zubaida Damakka Abubakar, described the retreat as “timely” with a view to addressing the problems militating against the progress of education sector in the state. He thanked Governor Ganduje for providing the desired leadership for accepting all reform programmes in the state.

Also speaking, the state Reform Programme Manager of DFID-PERL, Auwslu Hamza, said the essence of the retreat “is to validate the earlier draft implementation plan of three key issues on the education sector that include congestion of education and teaching facilities, poor teaching quality and inadequate of educational and learning facilities as well as establishing monitoring partnership for the shortlisted areas of challenge in the sector.” Papers were presented during the session from chairman of SUBEB, Alhaji Zakari Garba Bagwai, Permanent Secretary of SERVICOM, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa, and other development partners.
