Kano, leading pace-setter in Primary Health Care – Minister

Minister of Health Dr Osagie Emmanuel Ohenere has described Kano as a leading pace-setter in Primary Health Care delivery in  the country as a result of the giant strides effected by Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje on repositioning the sector on a sound and promising pedestal.

Speaking while declaring open the Kano 2020 Primary Health Care Summit, held at the Coronation Hall, Kano Government House, Tuesday, Ohenere stated that Kano under Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has made considerable headway in putting the much needed Primary Health Care facilities in place for the people of Kano state to access  health at the primary level.

He said no responsible government would love to pay lip-service to the provision of health at all levels and that the federal government had considered the health sector as one of the most  basic critical infrastructure that must be enhanced and sustained adding that the federal government was not unmindful of  its obligations in that regard.

He pointed out that it was as a result of the great concern demonstrated by the federal government that it had taken the bull by the horns on the provision of emergency care units across the country in addition to  enhancing the operations of the Centre  for Disease Control  in effecting proactive steps aimed at curtailing the proliferation of major illnesses that is taking a heavy toll  on the nation.

He stated that the health sector, being an integral part of the quest to make the lives of citizens of the nation safe and secure, the federal government saw the compelling need for according high priority to the sector , by appropriating  a huge chunk of financial resources to the sector as contained in the 2020 fiscal policy, stressing that achieving the goal has become paramount.

Speaking earlier, Governor Ganduje said the issue of enhancing primary health care in Kano state had been his major cardinal thrust  adding that his administration had concluded plans to equip all the 484 primary health care facilities across all the 44 local government areas in the state.

He said it was his administration’s intention and commitment to make  primary health care formidable and robust and that  he had also taken the decision to send a medical officer to all the 44 local government areas in the state as a way of achieving 100%  result.

In his welcome address, the commissioner  for  health, Dr Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa said   the state Ministry of health has made considerable inroad in checkmating the prevalence of notable child killer disease through the consistent  routine immunisation exercise affirming that a lot has passed under the bridge as far as  achieving the desired goals was concerned.

He said conducting the Kano 2020 Primary Healthcare Summit, has demonstrated the sheer commitment and seriousness of Governor Ganduje’s administration in providing reliable, sustainable and  robust health care, stressing that his ministry would remain consistent in sustaining the governor’s giant strides.
