Kano moves to repeal youths’ edict

Kano state government has commenced the statutory process to repeal Kano state Youths’ edict which was promulgated in 1976.

The Permanent Secretary, Kano state ministry of Youths and Sports, Alhaji Ibrahim Sagagi, disclosed this on Friday in Kano state.

He said the state government through the ministry has set in motion the mandatory mechanism to repeal the edict which he described as ‘agonizing and outdated’.

Sagagi, who spoke when members of Kano state House of Assembly standing committee on youths, sports and culture paid a familiarization visit to his office, said the extant law presently constitutes a clog to the rapid developments of youths and sports activities in the state.

The government official, who disclosed that the amendment of the edict is at its concluding stages, said on completion, the amended version, would be forwarded to Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for onward transmission to the Assembly.

He appealed to the lawmakers to consider the role the amendment of the edict would play in uplifting the lives of the Kano youths and pass it speedily when it’s forwarded to them.

Responding, the Chairman of the standing committee, Hon Nurudeen Danlami Rano said youths and sports were ‘twins’ that must be jointly developed.
