Kano now bastion of excellence – Ganduje

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has described Kano State under his leadership as a formidable bastion of excellence where democratic dividends are equitably spread since assumption of the present political dispensation. Speaking to news men at a parley held at Kano Government House yesterday, Ganduje said his administration was solidly built on two major foundations: State Anti-corruption Commission and improvement in internally generated revenue through taxation. The governor said the new tax policy has ensured that the state does not depend on oil revenue from the federal government for its vast infrastructural development strides.
According to him, his administration has ensured a formidable anti-graft body which has instil probity, accountability and transparency in governance adding public trust has been restored and the state IGR has improved. Further, he said his administration was compelled by the exigencies of the economic recession to effect a paradigm shift from overdependence on oil to launch a vigorous off ensive on revenue generation by taxing the affl uent. He said his administration had taken all the necessary steps to ensure that no sector of human development was ever ignored knowing its indispensable nature and importance to the society affi rming that huge resources had been committed in making such sectors strong, and vibrant. On education, Governor Ganduje said tertiary institutions in the state such as Maitama Sule University and Kano University of Science and Technology had been supported with funds to get all the relevant courses they offered fully accredited by the National Universities Commission positing that Kano indigenes pursuing various academic programmes were also funded to forge ahead with their studies despite the foul play of the immediate past administration. He noted that his administration had also lifted the status of the multi-million Naira Giginyu and Zoo road hospitals projects which were began and abandoned by the Shekarau administration and that his administration’s collaboration with notable development partners had raised the position of Kano in the parlance of health care.
