Why Kano opposes Kwankwaso’s presidential bid – Gaya

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Kabiru Gaya, has explained the source of the strained relationship between the former governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso and the state chapter of the party.
Gaya spoke even as the Bauchi state chapter of the party has said that it was not seeking the exit of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon.
Yakubu Dogara and other aggrieved members from the party.
Senator Gaya who spoke to journalists at the APC national headquarters yesterday said that Kwankwaso’s presidential ambition has pitted him against the party.
According to Gaya, as far as Kano was concerned, President Muhammadu Buhari remained the sole candidate for presidency.
He appealed to Senator Kwankwaso to drop his presidential ambition and seek other elective positions so that he could reunite with the party.
Similarly, the chairman of the Bauchi state chapter of APC, Umar Ahmed Nana, said the party leadership would not be happy to lose a single person.
Nana, who accompanied the Bauchi state governor to a meeting at the national secretariat of the APC yesterday said, at the moment, “the party is desperate to woo more members into its fold rather than chase people away.” He however stated the state chapter would not condone anyone who would cause crisis in the party.
“So, whether I will be worried or not be worried if the Speaker quits the party, you see as I have told you, as a party we will always welcome people into our fold.
“We always pray that, let there be understanding among ourselves but if there is any person whose presence in our family will bring another complex problem, we do pray that God in his infinite mercy help us so that that person will leave us alone but we will not be happy to lose a single person,” he said.
Nana said there was no compulsion in political association, adding that the country’s constitution gives every Nigerian the right to the freedom of association
