Kano organises reception for Qur’anic recitation winners

Kano state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development has organised a reception in honour of the three female winners of the state Qur’anic recitation competition, Musabaqa, which was held at Africa House, Government House, Kano.

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Binta Tijjani Jibril, who disclosed this, appealed to parents to allow their daughters to further both Islamic and secular education in view of its importance to societal development.
She lamented that despite the awareness “we have in the North, we are still at the lower rung of the ladder in terms of girl-child education compared to people in other parts of the country.”

Jibril stressed that no meaningful development could be achieved in any society without the contribution of women and called on them to work hard towards seeking education for them to have a clear sense of belonging.
The commissioner congratulated the winners for the monumental success and charged them to uphold the virtues of moral values in order to become the mirror of the society and role model of excellence.

On her part, the Deputy Commander, Women Wing, of the Hisba guards, Hajiya Zahara’u Muhammad, stressed the importance of female education in the development of the society, adding that there was the need for women to pursue medical profession for the betterment of the society.

Those honoured at the reception were Malama Maryam Khamis, Malama Rukayya Munkaila and Malama Firdausi Usman, respectively.
