Kano, pace-setter in contributory health care

Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, has described Kano as a leading pace-setter in contributory health care scheme which would serve as a catalyst towards addressing health challenges

Speaking at the flag-off of Kano state Contributory Health Care Agency at the Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital in Kano yesterday, Adewole said the Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje administration had recorded a tremendous success in the heath sector upon its assumption of office.

According to him, the effort would serve as a source of emulation to other governors.

He said: “No responsible government in the present democratic setting   would love to pay lip service to placing high premium on making the sector vibrant and formidable,” adding that “neglecting the sector would be a major step forward in the quest to ensure adequate health care delivery the indigenes.”

In his remarks, Governor Ganduje said his administration was committed to providing adequate health care to the people of Kano, affirming that the establishment of the contributory health care scheme was informed by the need to expedite action in that direction.

He pointed out that the programme had only begun with the civil servants and that it would be broaden to cover other areas of human interest, considering the importance his government attached to the scheme in the present democratic dispensation.

Speaking earlier, the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, commended the Ganduje administration for “its foresight in initiating the contributory health care scheme,” stressing that the people of Kano deserved a considerable health care in view of the state surging population.

He called on major stakeholders to strive and forge a close a close collaboration in tackling major health challenges.
