Kano Partners NIS on skills acquisition for prisoners

Kano state Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has restated the commitment of his administration to partner with Nigerian Prison Service on skill acquisition programmes to minimise crimes rate in the state.

The Governor said this while receiving the Participants of the 9th Advanced Command Course Study Tour to Kano who paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House.

Ganduje who was represented by his Deputy Dr. Nauru Yusuf Gawuna maintained that Prison inmates are not only expected to serve their terms in Prison but to be informed, trained and strongly empowered to become productive after leaving the yards.

” Kano state Government has constructed a multi – billions Naira Skills Acquisition Centre designs to train our teeming youths on over 24 skills acquisition courses which we will partner with Nigerian Prison Service to promote its activities ”

 ” We are partnering with you to train some of your inmates at the Prison Yard while some Inmates with minor cases, under a good supervision, will be taken directly to the centre for training after which they will be issued with Certificates and finally get employed so that they can stand on their feet ” Ganduje said.

He  urged participants of the Nigerian Prison advanced Command Study tour to explore progrommes been put in place by the present administration which make the state more popular in terms of economic activities.

” I want to you to explore other economic site of the State. We have various infrastructures put in place, we have embarked on modernizing our markets to make them more models.  Our Mega Kano Economic City is still on which is a giant project initiated by this administration to create more economic activities ” he said.

Speaking Earlier, leader of the delegation, the Assistant Controller General Nigerian Prison Service Alhaji Muhammad Ibrahim Hussain said they were in Kano for advanced Command study tour to witness some of the viable projects being executed by the administration of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje especially on Prison matters.

“We are here for a study tour where we have choosen Kano State because of the achievements and contributions which His Excellency Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje has rendered to Prison Service, we want to see these by ourselves because seeing is believing ” he stated.
