Kano PDP appeals tribunal’s refusal to amend list of witness

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Kano state chapter, Wednesday said it would appeal against the verdict of the state Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which rejected its request to amend the list of witnesses.

The tribunal had on Tuesday dismissed an application by the PDP praying for a leave of the court to amend the list of the petitioner’s witnesses.

But in a swift reaction, counsel to the PDP, Salisu Sabo Kurawa, Wednesday requested the court to furnish the petitioners’ with the records of proceedings, to enable them necessary legal redress.

The counsel said both the party and its governorship candidate in the March 9th and 23rd governorship poll, Abba Kabiru Yusuf, wanted to review the list of witnesses but was denied.

Further, he said there was nothing wrong with the request because it is provided for within the ambit of the law, stressing that it was the basis for the party’s decision to challenge the August 6 ruling of the tribunal.

The counsel insisted that refusing the PDP and Yusuf their legitimate demand to make typographical corrections on the list of witnesses attached to their petition, was not out of the rules but are indeed bound by the court records.

The respondent- APC and its candidate, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, through his counsel Barrister Offiong Offiong did not object to the request even as the petitioners prayed the court to adjourn the matter till today to continue with the hearing and they were the tribunal chairman, Justice Halima Shamaki, obliged the request.
