Kano police arrest 22-yr-old ‘drug baron’

Kano state Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old suspected drug baron, Stanley Arinze, of Jaba Village in Ungogo local government area, for allegedly supplying hard drugs from Lagos to Kano as well as Niger Republic. Parading the suspect at the Command’s Headquarters in Kano yesterday, the Command’s Spokesman, DSP Magaji Musa Majiya, said Arinze who hailed from Anambra state, “is a trader whose shop is located at no. 256 Sani Abacha Line, SabonGari Market, Kano, who was found to have supplied 25 cartons of Tramadol tablets, valued at N17, 200,000.” According to him, the Tramadol tablets were concealed in Plasma TV like cartons in order to escape the preying eyes of security personnel on the road. He, however, stated that the suspected drug baron was able to pass through the security checks from Lagos, but got intercepted on Kano Eastern bye-pass by vigilant police detectives and had confessed to committing the crime. Majiya re-affi rmed the resolve and commitment of the Command to descend heavily on anyone found to have violated the laws of the land by committing heinous crimes. He stressed that the police would never fold their arms and allow miscreants and high profi le criminals to hold the nation to ransom
