Kano remains model in fertilizer production in Nigeria- Dep Gov

Kano state deputy governor Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna has said the state would continue to occupy its position as model in fertilizer production in the country.

The Gamuma made the statement while responding to journalists on the preparations made so far by the Ganduje’s administration in to ensure that Farmers are provided with farming inputs.

He stressed that the administration of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje had performed well in the provision of inputs to farmers withthe aim of enhancing their productivity.

He said, ” For the past four years, the administration of Dr. Abdullahi has done so much in terms of provision of inputs to Farmers and one important aspects is Fertilizer and that has to do with revival of Kano State Agricultural Supply  Company (KASCO) by the present administration ” he disclosed.

He said since the inception of Ganduje’s administration, the state Agricultural Supply Company (KASCO) has been resuscitated and funded thereby enabling the state to take the lead in terms of fertilizer blending across the nation.

He said: “Even neighbouring states now procure their fertilizer from Kano and through the module from Kano, the federal government also set up a task force committee on fertilizer chaired by the Jigawa state Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar which adopted the system used by Kano on fertilizer supply and consequently led to the production of qualitative fertilizer at affordable price “

” On the issue of land clearance, earlier this year, Kano State Government provided Seeds Funding to All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in all the 44 Local Government Areas  which enabled them to enter in to Partnership and Programmes with other development Partners where they developed a programme to procure tractors under Farm Mechanization ” Gawuna added.

“At the moments, Kano has been chosen to flag off rice planting season under the Anco Borrowers Programme and Kano has the largest number of Farmers that have registered so far.

“The Federal Government and State Government are reviving the production of Cotton because when you are talking about reviving Cotton industries,  you have to look at the raw materials, that is why Federal Government is bringing the two together ” he pointed out.
