Kano restates commitment to student exchange with Niger Republic

Kano State Government has reiterated its commitment to sustaining the bilateral agreement with Niger Republic on exchange of secondary school students to study at the Bilingual College, Niamey.

The bilingual college was established by the Kano State Government in collaboration with the Niger Republic.

The state Commissioner of Education, Muhammad Kiru, stated this when the Nigerien Minister of Secondary Schools, Muhammad Zamro, paid him a courtesy visit Wednesday in Kano.

Kiru said that the bilingual college were established in Niamey seven years ago to enhance  learning of French and English languages among students from Niger and Kano state.

 “The agreement was to exchange students between Kano state and Niger Republic, at which the state will provide English teachers to teach English language while Niger Republic to provide French teachers.

“The aim is to teach the students both French and English languages so that we can strengthen our relationship, especially in the area of education,” he said.

The commissioner noted that the state government was committed to ensuring that all the needed infrastructure were completed in both the schools situated in Niamey, Niger Republic, to achieve the set objectives.

Under the agreement, he said,  a male school is to be established at Niamey with the female college in Zinder, adding that the male school has commenced academic activities in the past seven years, while that of the female is on the way.

Also speaking, Zamro said they were in Kano to discuss the way forward to ensure that the female school commence academic activities, adding that the visit would go a long way in sustaining the existing bilateral relationship between the Kano State Government and Niger Republic.

According to him, 250 of the over 500 student population of the school are from Kano state.He called on the Kano government to make sure that the next batch of students is qualified and ambitious to study further.
