Kano spends N20m on sanitation equipment

Kano state government says it has spent more than N20 million for the procurement of sanitation equipment and distributed to 100 self help – groups in the state.

In a press statement in Kano Wednesday, the state Commissioner for Environment, Dr Kabiru Ibrahim Getso, disclosed this during monitoring of evacuation of waste in the state as the ongoing exercise “Keep Kano clean week, 2021” exercise at both Saye quarters and Unguwar Gini in Nasarawa and Kano Municipal local government areas respectively.

Recall that the Kano state Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje had on Saturday flagged up “Keep Kano Clean 2021” as part of his administration efforts to desilt drainages and tackle problems that may result to flooding in the state.

He said the sanitation equipment were distributed to the 100 self-help group drawn from eight metropolitan local government areas aimed at complementing government efforts in addressing influx of garbage, sands and other unwanted food items in to the drainages.

Getso said the items distributed include wheel-barrows, shovels, rakes, diggers, cutlasses, personal protective equipment like nose mass, hand globes, rain buts, among others aimed at protecting the health of people that are participating in the exercise.
