Kano targets 3.5m kids for polio immunisation

The Kano state government has stated that it had targeted 3,563,260   of 0-59 months old eligible children for polio immunisation expected to be conducted in January, this year, for the disease to be kept in check.

Speaking to news men on the level of preparations for the vaccination exercise held at the Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital, Kano Friday, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Aminu Ibrahim Tsanyawa, said the state government was fully committed  to ensuring that all eligible children were immunised through various programmes targeted at them.

He said 3,732,040 doses of vaccine was also made available to ensure a hitch free exercise, adding that government had concluded arrangements for the conduct of the last round of this year’s polio immunisation campaign scheduled for January 11 to 14, 2020, in all the local government areas.

Tsanyawa said remarkable achievements and progress were recorded in Routine Immunisation in Kano, adding that they included the establishment of local government routine immunisation coordination centre in all the 44 local government areas as well as the procurement and installation of two cubic metre walk-in cold rooms for the state’s cold store.

The commissioner said as part of the achievements, the state government also installed new solar direct drive refrigerators at the ward levels in addition to conducting reconciliation meeting between wards heads and service providers on a monthly basis at the village head’s house.

He also re-affirmed the determination of the state government to provide adequate and quality health care services to the people.
