‘Kano winning war against drug abuse, trafficking’

Chairman, Kano Task force on Trafficking and Drug Abuse, Alhaji Garba Ahmed, has said that the Kano state government was already winning the war against trafficking and drug abuse, adding that it had dislodged at least 12 drug consumption hubs.

Presenting his scorecard to newsmen at a press briefing in his office, Ahmed said with the offensive launched by his task force, 12 centres used by notorious drug addicts had been discovered and dislodged.
He said areas raided by the task force included Kofar Nasarawa, Kofar Naisa, Sharada P&T, Gadun Albasa, Gidan Zoo, Rumfa College, and Dorayi Primary School.  Others were Darmanawa, Sabon Gari, New Road Motor Park, R/Lemo and Unguwa Uku Motor Parks.

Ahmed, who is also the Kano Zonal Commander of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), said the government “is truly winning the war against trafficking and drug abuse as the task force also effected the arrest, seizure and conviction of addicts in 2013.”

He commended the government for its support to the task force, disclosing that another batch of 150 drug addicts would soon be taken to the Reformatory Institute for rehabilitation.
He gave the assurance that the task force would never rest on its oars in ensuring that “no drug addicts’ hub is spared,” in view of the precarious consequences excessive consumption of drugs posed to the society.
