Kano’s twin market disasters worrisome – Peter Obi

The Labour Party presidential candidate for next year’s general election, Mr. Peter Obi, has described the two tragedies that occurred at the GSM market on Beirut Road and Kantin Kwari market as “great losses to not Kano state alone but the entire nation.”

Obi stated this when he paid a sympathetic visit to both markets respectively.

The presidential candidate represented by the vice-presidential candidate, Dr. Yusif Datti-Baba Ahmad, said the building collapse at the GSM market was touching and disturbing.

He prayed to the Almighty Allah to repose the souls of those who lost their lives during the building collapse and wished the injured quick recovery.

Obi also sympathised with the affected flood victims of Kantin Kwari textile market.

In his response, the chairman, Beirut Market Mobile Traders Association, Engr. Abubakar Usman, applauded the Labour Party’s presidential candidate for the visit.

He said the association was working assiduously to ensure that those affected were supported.

“We are trying to get a befitting place for those who lost their places of business as a result of the collapse of this building, since it had been converted to a parking space by the government,” he said.

Earlier, Obi paid homage to the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, at his Palace.
