Kanti Bello’s death saddening – Gaya

The lawmaker representing Kano south in the Senate, Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya, has expressed deep sadness and grief over the passage of Senator Mahmud Kanti Bello who was a senator in the Sixth Senate.

In a statement issued by the senator, who is also the vice-president, IPU, Africa, stated that the deceased was a role model as a lawmaker.

He said it was more painful looking back at the time they served together, adding that his contributions “will remain nostalgic in the minds of followers of events in the country.”

Gaya said while the deceased was the Chief Whip, he (Gaya) was the Deputy Minority Whip.

According to the one-time Kano state governor, the passage of Bello has created a vacuum that “will take time to fill,” and that the “Senate will greatly miss his advisory role.”

He further said the late Katsina-born senator was outspoken and courageous on national issues without sentiments.

The Late Bello served in the Senate for two terms and represented Katsina North Senatorial District between 2003 and 2011 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Chairman, Senate Committee on Works, while sympathising with the immediate family of the late senator, constituents and the government and people of Katsina state, prayed that the Almighty Allah will grant him aljannah firdaus.
