Katsina: 142 farmers get N5m from NDE

Katsina state office of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has distributed N5 million to 142 young farmers in an effort to make them self reliant under its agricultural business enhancement scheme.

The state coordinator National Directorate of Employment (NDE) in Katsina office Alh. Abdulkarim Sirika disclosed this on Tuesday while distributing the funds to trained farmers.

He said the directorate under its new programs on agriculture trained the rural farmers on how to farm and equally assisted them with funds across the State.

He said 36 youth were given N50,000 each to enhance Agricultural allied activities and hand craft, saying under the directorate Agricultural value chain scheme (AVCS) six Various  cooperative groups of 10 person each were assisted with N40,000 each to be self reliant on agricultural activities.

Sirika said under the new approved food processing and packaging scheme (FPPS) 48 women were also assisted with N20,000 each to carry our processing and packaging of foods in their localities.

The NDE coordinator said the scheme was designed to reduce enormous food wastage and losses to pest, rodents and deterioration which arise due to lack of proper post harvest processing, storage and packaging.
